What Determines Ammunition Type?
A cartridge's type is defined by the material and shape of its bullet, the case material, the primer system and, for shotgun shot loads, the shot weight and shot size. The same calibre can be produced with more than one bullet type — 9x19 mm ammunition, for example, is manufactured with both FMJ and JHP construction — so calibre alone does not identify a product. 1. Full Metal Jacket (FMJ)
In an FMJ bullet, a lead core is fully enclosed in a metal jacket, typically a brass alloy, which lets the bullet largely retain its shape on impact. Most pistol and rifle ammunition in the Ozkursan catalogue uses an FMJ brass-jacketed bullet, including the Ozkursan Luger (9x19 mm, 124 gr, steel case) and the Ozkursan 5.56x45 mm rifle cartridge (55 gr, Boxer primer). FMJ is the catalogue's most widely used bullet type, spanning the 7.65x17 mm, .45 ACP and 9x19 mm product lines.
2. Jacketed Hollow Point (JHP)
A JHP bullet has a cavity at the tip, which changes its behaviour on contact with the target compared with an FMJ design. In the catalogue this type appears in a single 9x19 mm Luger product family: the Ozkursan Hollow Point (124 gr, JHP brass, brass case, Boxer primer). It is one of the few brass-cased 9x19 mm items in the range and, despite sharing the same 124 gr weight as the FMJ version, uses a different bullet construction.
3. Slug (Single-Projectile) Shotgun Loads
Slug loads replace shot with a single projectile, giving the cartridge ballistic behaviour closer to a rifle round. 5. Rubber Projectiles
Rubber projectiles use a rubber body in place of a metal core and are intended for training and deterrent applications. 6. Blank (Primer-Only) Cartridges
Blank cartridges carry no bullet; they are designed only to produce sound and muzzle flash.
